St. Joseph's Community Hospital

In the context of alleviation of ill health and promoting of better health condition, the constitution asserts the raising of the level of health status through specific promotive, preventive and curative health measures. But the present health condition reveals that high emphasis on the curative approach has led to the neglect of the preventive, promotive and rehabilitative aspects of the health care. It has tended to enhance dependency and has weakened the community and has failed to involve the individuals and families in establishing a society with better health.

Various community health activities were initiated in the year 1996, under the programme "Establishing a PHC Programme in Jammu Province" with the overall objective namely "to strengthen the existing health services, and "Health for all" by improving the services of the dispensaries and health centre in the rural areas of Jammu Province.

In 1999, after having strengthened Primary Health Care (PHC) for two consecutive years the construction of a community referral hospital as an institution to facilitate the promotive, preventive and curative health care. The hospital was inaugurated by Honourable health minister of Jammu & Kashmir Government, Shri.Lal Singh and blessed by Bishop.Peter Celestine OFM, Cap and Bishop.Hippolitus Kunnunkal OFM, Cap on August 23, 2003.

  • 3. We are dedicated to meet the patient's mental and emotional needs, and to keep an average awareness of the social nature of a person which will enable us to see the patient as a person with family and as a member of a society.
  • 4. Our hospital shall function as charitable non-profit making and voluntary institution and cooperate with other health care delivery systems of our country.
  • 5. The personnel shall observe the ethics of Catholic Church, legal aspects of Indian Penal Code and also the international code of ethics, applicable to health care system.
